Wickedness grows

Ezekiel 33:31 (NIV) My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Mark 7:21-23 (NIV) 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come"sexual immorality, theft, murder,22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person. 1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NIV) 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Look closely within...

It’s not easy to step back from ourselves and look deeply within at our own thoughts, words, and actions as God sees them. He sees far too many double-minded Christians. Those are the Christians who talk the talk, but don’t match their actions with their words. We cannot hide from our Lord; He sees both sides of us. We must strive to capture our thoughts and guard our tongues if we truly want to be pure in heart, and right in God’s sight. It is a daily; even minute by minute examination and correction of ourselves that we must ask The Holy Spirit to guide us in. Matthew 7:1-3 Judging Others 7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? James 1: 2-27 Listening and Doing 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it"not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it"they will be blessed in what they do.

Day turns into night; then night into day, and with each passing I feel closer and closer to my God. He is ever present and knows my heart as well as my mind. My mind needs to be set right. It goes on it's own way sometimes. I pray that God forgive my unruly thoughts when they come. When I rein in the thoughts peace does return. My God, my peace, The Peace of God. i have found that in these later days of my own life I am at peace with myself as no other time in my life. God is so good and so faithful to walk with us. Walk at the pace we wish to go. Some of us are wary and some of us are eager to continue our journey. And each journey is different...none are the same. Our God weaves a tapestry of life of each of His sheep. When the tapestry is finished a glorious new sight we will behold and be intertwined in at the same time. Glory to God.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV

Renewing Friendships

I spent a couple of hours on the phone this evening with an old friend I had not talked to in years. She and I worked together for a few years at 3 different real estate offices in Hartselle and became good friends, but for some reason we drifted apart when we went to separate offices. She went to an office in Decatur and I came to work in Falkville when a friend opened a new office here. Anyway I guess life just moves people in different directions sometimes. For some reason God has put us back in touch. We had a wonderful conversation this evening and I hope we will get together and "catch up" very soon.

I decided to move the posts I had titled "Memories" to a more private and more easily accessible place. It's not easy to put into words the things I want to write because most of my memories are not pleasant.

The Word for our time:

New International Version 2 Timothy 3... But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone. A Final Charge to Timothy 10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferingswhat kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Instructions for life!

Proverbs 4:19-21
20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one's whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil

Most of us are aware of the discussion/controversy that's been going on since the terrible events in Tucson.   Regarding words people say...

My view ... and I think maybe I've given this little lecture/sermon before, but in a different way.   It is so important that it can't be said too often.

When I open my Bible to the very first Words of God, (Genesis), one of the first things that stands out to me is that the scriptires say, "Then God said".  These words are written repeatedly in the description of His manifestation of  (1st day)light, (2nd day) space between the waters (the sky), (3rd day) flowing of waters into one place (land and seas), land sprouting with vegetation, (4th day) lights (sun, moon, and stars) appearing in the sky, (5th day) waters swarming with fish and the skies filled with birds, (6th day) let the earth produce...every sort of animal and gave them the ability to reproduce, and then ... He created human beings in His image and gave them reign over all the animals.  He blessed them and said... :Be fruitful and multiply, Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground."

  Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the groundeverything that has life." And that is what happened.

The Lord God Almighty spoke all into being.  How POWERFUL His Word IS ...

So are our words powerless or are they powerful?   There is no visual manifestation in our realm of  our words, but the power of our words advances forth into a realm that is invisible to you and me. Once a word is spoken it has been released forever perhaps?

Wow, it's a New Year already...

Here we are already 10 days into a new year.  It really is amazing how time does seem to go faster as I get older.  All in all this has been a good year on a personal level.  No major health problems, thank God.  Never enough money of course, but that's a human condition that comes with our territory, right?

Actually my life has changed very little in the few years since I moved into my own little house.  I still stay home 90% of the time.  That's out of choice.  I spend some time with Charles...either at his house or he at my house.

In the last few months in addition to losing Isaiah we've lost Charles' son-in-law, Ray, to cancer and his last wife, Ida, to cancer.  He has a daughter and g'son of that marriage so we went to the services in support of his daughter.

Right now we have snow on the ground here, and I heard we're supposed to have ice next.  Must be a good 3 - 4 inches of snow and so far it's not melting...so we stay home, and off the roads.  We don't have the equipment to clear the roads in Alabama AND people here have NO idea how to drive on slippery roads.  :-P
